I just spent the afternoon with six other women in my Prayer Shawl Knitting Group. We spent the first hour in the retreat room and then moved to another room for treats.
For most of the time, we knit, crochet and chat. We have a brief period of prayer for the unknown recipients and then break.
Four of us stayed after the others left and talked. We talked about families, employers and gave each other support and encouragement.
There was no dramatic spiritual insight, yet we each left the group feeling refreshed and a little more dedicated to living our faith than when we started.
What is better than female friendships for building a community? Nothing that I know of.
